Daily Om ~ Your Most Vital Commitment

photo(248)We can excel easier in our lives when our own spiritual, physical, and intellectual needs are fulfilled. Within each of there is a well of energy that must be regularly replenished. When we act as if this well is bottomless, scheduling a long list of activities that fit like puzzle pieces into every minute of every day, it becomes depleted and we feel exhausted, disconnected, and weak. Refilling this well is a matter of finding time to focus on, nurture, and care for ourselves, or “you time.” Most of us are, at different times throughout the day, a spouse, a friend, a relative, an employee, a parent, or a volunteer, which means that down time, however relaxing in nature, is not necessarily “you time.” Though some people will inevitably look upon “you time” as being selfish, it is actually the polar opposite of selfishness. We can only excel where our outer world affairs are concerned when our own spiritual, physical, and intellectual needs are fulfilled.

Recognizing the importance of “you time” is far easier than finding a place for it in an active, multifaceted lifestyle, however. Even if you find a spot for it in your agenda, you may be dismayed to discover that your thoughts continuously stray into worldly territory. To make the most of “you time,” give yourself enough time on either side of the block of time you plan to spend on yourself to ensure that you do not feel rushed. Consider how you would like to pass the time, forgetting for the moment your obligations and embracing the notion of renewal. You may discover that you are energized by creative pursuits, guided meditation, relaxing activities during which your mind can wander, or modes of expression such as writing.

Even if you have achieved a functioning work-life balance, you may still be neglecting the most important part of that equation: you. “You time” prepares you for the next round of daily life, whether you are poised to immerse yourself in a professional project or chores around the home. It also affords you a unique opportunity to learn about yourself, your needs, and your tolerances in a concrete way. As unimportant as “you time” can sometimes seem, it truly is crucial to your well-being because it ensures that you are never left without the energy to give of yourself.

Quado ~ Opportunity Surrounds You

Look at this beautiful rose. Unfolding with new opportunities and hope. I just had to post it not as a thumbnail but as a larger picture so you could see its beauty. Imagine its glorious scent and velvet petals.

It’s the New Moon (or very nearly) and I feel that today’s message from Quado is so appropriate for me, and for you too.

You are, right now, standing in opportunity.  It is all around you.  At this age, at this weight, with these resources, you are surrounded by opportunity. There are doors and windows flying open all around you.

The larger arc of your life is one of constant renewal and opportunity.  But this moment, right now, is utterly unique, and the talents you have right now and the types of opportunities which surround you in this moment are here for this moment only.  And so, you must take a deep breath and step through a door, take some action, allow yourself to act on those dreams.

If you do not fully believe in yourself, that is all right.  Act as if you do.  Act as if you are completely confident.  Pretend to be the person you aspire to be and the universe will respond.  And as the response comes, you will begin to actually be this person you aspire to be.  And the response will contain within it both the seeds for your growth and the seeds for your success.  You will be praised for some things and given advice on others.  All of this is the fruit of action.

Do not let this moment turn into a moment of regret.  Do not let this moment be one that you look back on with longing, wondering how you could have missed the signs, how you could have doubted yourself and been so afraid.  Let this be a moment you look back on with pride, proud of the courage you had to step out and act, even though you were uncertain in many ways, even though you had to take a deep, deep breath to overcome your fear.

Thought for today

Today, I see the opportunities sparkling all around me, like diamonds in the grass.  Today, I allow myself to pick up a diamond, to walk through an opening door, to open wide the windows of life and let the fresh air of new experience blow through.

Today I welcome the new, the fresh, the clean.  I am willing to give up old patterns of thinking and being and open myself to the fresh air of life.

I am deeply connected to what is.  I ride the flow of life, just as it is.  I love and approve of myself in this moment, exactly as I am.

Daily Om ~ Rain

On the next rainy day, imagine the rain washing away and cleansing your emotional body.

There are times when we might feel the need to wash away all of our troubles and call forth freshness into our lives. Since perhaps the most cleansing substance on this earth is water, we can think of the joy rain brings as an energetic bath, rejuvenating our minds, bodies and souls. Just being able to spend a few moments every time it rains to become aware of the healing powers water brings to us can renew us in so many ways. As we do this we will find that the more we appreciate the universe’s gift to us in the form of rain, the more we can see that a gentle rain shower is a strong reflective tool that has the ability to cleanse our entire being.

The next time it rains might be a good chance to experience the rain through all of your senses, allowing you to truly understand just how truly important each and every drop of water is. First, take a few minutes to look outside and notice how each individual raindrop seems to come down in a continual stream. By noticing this you can contemplate how it takes many small accomplishments to create the whole of your existence, for nothing exists in isolation. Then you might wish to focus your attention on the sound of the rainfall, letting the sounds of drops penetrate into the innermost recesses of your self. Listening in this way may bring you a greater sense of connection with nature and the world around you, knowing that the sounds you hear are an integral part of not just the physical sustenance you require but also nourish your spirit as well.

Consciously using our senses to feel nature’s healing energy as it comes to us in the form of rain is an act of internal cleansing. Just as the rain physically washes over the earth and rinses out any impurities and imperfections, so it also bathes our spirit in the joy that comes from knowing that we are in fact one with the world around us.
