Today’s card pulled is simply Home, and what a beautiful card it is. Here home is in the woods, a fairy door within the forest, or is it within the rock. not sure but it seems to merge into the trees themselves. A little owl peeks out of a tiny hole. There is an ornately carved door and although it is shut the window is open revealing a glowing and welcoming interior. There are two little faeries if you look closely and what strikes me is the little sign on the right hand side that says simple ‘Welcome Life’. Oh yes it is a secret place no doubt but the fae and the owl will guide you there, and once inside you will receive so much love and heartfelt and warming welcome. Although deep in the forest merging with the trees and rocks making it difficult to find, it is there and once there you’re truly home.
Here’s what the guide book says:
You are comfortable in your own skin – you belong! Peace, security, safety, belonging and all the features one would want from ‘home’ are indicated now. The Home card represents an invitation to experience what it’s like to be secure in your own skin, to live comfortably no matter what is happening in the world around you. It is a time for opening your eyes to your tribe of like-minded people, or one special person who makes you feel like you’ve come home.
Home is love, and love is all around you now. Whatever your enquiry, you are where you’re meant to be and will reap great benefits by staying on this path regardless of where it leads. home will always be with you – it is where the heart is.
It took a long time for me to feel truly comfortable in my own skin. This isn’t surprising – after all we are spirits in a human body and it can take a while to truly get used to something. When you think about it 40 odd years of getting used to my human body is just a drop in the ocean compared to the lifespan of my true self – my spirit. It’s no wonder that many young people find it confusing to be in their own bodies. In fact it’s perfectly normal I would say. Trouble is we are bombarded each day by society and convention to fit in…to something…but why should we when what we are being forced to fit into isn’t truly ours.
I used to hate my body, my self. I’d try to change it, make it and myself conform to other people’s ideas of who or what I should be. Part of the problem is the way we label ourselves. It’s unavoidable really isn’t it. That’s what human creatures do, we label! I bet elephants don’t label, or cheetahs, or skunks. No, they all go about their daily business knowing who or what they are. So why is it so different for humans? Well, scientists would say it’s because we have bigger brains and so forth. That may well be true although I don’t think the human race uses them very well sometimes. Psychologists will say it’s because we have ‘egos’ and for the most part they’re right. It is the ego that labels in order for us to make sense of our world, and that is important. But the ego is a trickster and sooner or later it will hold us in its thrall until we no longer know who we truly are and we become like automatons. We lose a sense of our home, our inner self because we are too busy worrying and trying to change the outer body – thinner, fitter, leaner, fashionable clothes…and this then extends to the bricks and mortar homes we live in…bigger, better, smaller, location, location, location!
It’s all a large pile of horse dung! None of this charging about ‘doing’ things to change our outer bodies or bricks and mortar homes makes us any more fulfilled. True it may make us happier for a time until the ego finds something else to catch our eye and stop us from doing the real inner work. The truth is your home is within you, your inner sense of self. When you’ve got this then the outer stuff is…just stuff and doesn’t matter so much. But I’m still working on it, I’m not fully home just yet. I still like buying nice things and I still worry about how my leg beard will be perceived by others. But I’m working on it and I’ve noticed that the more I work on it the nearer my real home I get.
Look at the card again. do you think it’s easy to get to this welcoming home? Not on your life! You have to struggle through the forest on unfamiliar terrain and it’s going to take a while but there are guides to help you – Owl is there to help you, she knows the paths through the dark woods and she has wisdom and insight. We all have guides of one form or another, perhaps it’s a fellow human being, perhaps it’s a spirit or power animal or both…we have guides that we see with our physical eyes and we have guides we see with our inner eyes. Never forget you’re never alone on the dark path to your true home – your Self!
